Product description

Block paving sealer is a clear, UV light stable solution designed to penetrate the surface of block paving and other concrete products.

Purpose

Block paving sealer has been designed to seal the surface of the paving to improve the aesthetic appearance of blocks, paving slabs and other concrete products, and provide a barrier to contaminants thereby facilitating easy maintenance. This sealed surface will increase abrasion resistance and also protect the jointing sand from erosion and weed infestation.

Special Properties

  • Reduces sand loss from joints
  • Reduces efflorescence
  • Ultra-violet light and weather resistant
  • Inhibits the growth of moss and weeds
  • Enhances the colour of the paving
  • Facilitates the easy removal of oil and other contamination
  • Will not blister or peel if used correctly

Application Instructions

Block paving sealer can be applied using a Viton sprayer unit or roller, at a rate of 3m² per litre. A two coat application is required to fully cover the jointing sand. Block paving sealer should be tack free within 3 hours at 20ºC and foot traffic may be permitted after 6 hours. Vehicles should be kept off the sealed area for a minimum of 24 hours at 20ºC. These times may be increased or reduced depending on the ambient temperature. During the curing cycle, protect from rain. Do not apply when the ground temperature is above 30ºC or below 5ºC. All equipment should be cleaned with Solvent Cleaner after use. Always check the manufactures instructions (usually on the side of the container) before comencing any work with block paving sealers

Preparation Instructions

New block paving should be left for a minimum period of 8 weeks before paving sealer is applied.Block paving or flagstone paving should be swept clean, ensuring there is sufficient well-compacted sand in the joints. Existing paving should be pressure washed to remove all surface debris. If the area is contaminated with weeds and moss then it should be treated with a good Block paving sealer Fungicidal Wash.

Oil and other stains should be removed using a Block paving sealer degreaser. The treated area should then be left to dry and the joints re-sanded and compacted to the lower edge of the paver chamfers with clean kiln-dried sand. Moisture in the paver and sand will inhibit penetration of the sealer and produce a whiteness trapped under the sealer.Always check to see if the joint sand has thouroughly dried before applying the block paving sealer.

Health and Safety

If it is a solvent based (flammable liquid) block paving sealer then please follow these instructions. Do not smoke or use a naked flame. Keep application area well ventilated. Wear a respirator and appropriate gloves when applying. Store in a cool place. Flash point 40ºC (Abel-Closed Cup). Always read and refer to the Health and Safety Data Sheet for further information that you should get with your sealer. If the sealer is water based then please wear protective gloves and again always follow instructions and Health and Safety Data Sheet for further information.
